Paul had always wanted to create a unique home in a listed Georgian town house complete with roman
bath, outdoor hot tub and formal gardens designed for entertaining. His Steinway piano was to take
centre stage in the design, and his extensive wine collection needed a home befitting of its vintage.
Dyer Grimes Architects were asked to redevelop the derelict Islington property and to deliver every last
detail of the project with minimal input from our busy client. Working with Chelsea winning garden
designer Stuart Crane, we undertook a complete refurbishment inside and out.
Externally the house suffered from severe subsidence and an out-of-control giant creeper blocked out
any natural light to the back of the property.
Islington Conservation Officers, renowned in their ferocity for protecting listed buildings in the
borough, would likely resist any changes that might alter the original fabric of the building.
Our in-house planners worked in partnership with Islington Council to obtain the required permission
to make the radical interior changes and to extend the basement in order to install the hot tub and wine
cellar.
Building works were finished to exacting standards using the finest local craftsmen. An ingenious hydraulic
trap door was incorporated into the floor of the utility room to gain access to the wine cellar which runs
the length of the house.
Our in-house Interior Design team decorated and furnished the house with the highest quality fixtures
and fittings sourced from our extensive resource library. Bathrooms were finished with beautiful Stoneage marble and limestone tiles, with flooring of the finest Austrian wood running throughout the
main house.
