Planning Approval to Extend 4,000 sqft House in Tor Gardens, Kensington

Dyer Grimes Architecture has obtained planning approval and conservation area consent to refurbish and extend an existing house in Tor Gardens, including a substantial basement extending beneath the front garden.

The house was built by Thomas Bridges in 1851 and is one of four matching properties. A number of planning applications had been submitted in the past and refused, so the owners approached DGA to overcome the planning roadblocks and unlock the tremendous potential of this home.

DGA had to work closely with Kensington and Chelsea conservation officers on all of the external changes to make sure they did not have a negative impact on the Camden Hill Conservation Area. We reinforced our application with numerous specialist structural reports, borehole and soil investigations, and traffic management plans to ensure that there will be minimal disturbance to neighbours while the basement is excavated.
