The client brief was to design a beautiful new build Georgian style house with associated parking and landscaping to provide a higher quality of accommodation and standard of living than the existing 1930's house occupying the site. The existing house had been the subject of many unsympathetic changes and reconfiguration over its lifetime and the land around the property developed, making the house feel oddly placed on the site with no clear visible entrance or relationship to Atherton Drive.

The site is located in Wimbledon Common Conservation Area. There are two tree protection orders (TPO's) at the front of the site. Uniquely, there is a historic brickwork wall which is protected and cuts across the site, 30% inboard of the boundary. This necessitated the design to be carefully considered in its response.
