On-Site Photos From Tricia and Tony’s Riverside Restoration

Work is progressing smoothly for our restoration of a riverside Building of Townscape Merit in Richmond. To make the most of its enviable location, we’re constructing a full-width extension/terrace overlooking one of the best views in London.

This steel frame shows a clear outline of the new lower ground extension which will provide panoramic views of the Thames through its glass sliding doors, while the top will create a luxurious terrace for the ground floor.

As a Building of Townscape Merit, this property enjoys almost as much protection as a listed building. Planning permission was contingent on certain elements being retained, such as the timber frame for the glass door above, carefully supported to prevent damage during construction.

Here we are standing in what will be the kitchen and dining room, looking up at the steel frame which will form the roof of this space and also the floor for the terrace above. When complete, our clients will be able to walk out from the door on the upper right to enjoy the spectacular river view.

A layer of brick now hides the steel frame beneath, with matching materials ensuring that the finished extension – after a bit of weathering – will look like it was always a part of the house. To the left, a new set of stairs will provide access from the terrace down into the garden.

It’s not just the outside of the house that is undergoing dramatic changes. The original house had separate staircases for each floor, which severely disrupted the flow from one space to another.

This new, unified stairwell will allow for uninterrupted movement from the lower ground floor all the way to the newly converted attic bedroom.

We look forward to sharing more on this project as it progresses. For now, you can click here to read an interview with the clients, Tricia and Tony, who almost missed this fantastic opportunity.
