Winning is Just the Start: Our Sunday Times British Homes Awards Victory

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

It’s been one year since White Lodge won Best Family Home at the Sunday Times British Homes Awards and we’re proud to announce that 2014 has brought with it yet another award.

You may remember this post back in June, where Michael Gwynn took you through the journey of the then nominated Emperor’s Gate renovation –  a dramatic unification of three dwellings into a single, luxurious London mansion.

“Once the dust had settled, our clients found a unique family dwelling combining contemporary design with period grace,” wrote Michael. “Opening up every floor with light and space created true town house elegance, while one-off pieces from around the world added inimitable character.”

It was this inimitable character that caught the eye of judge Daniel Hopwood, president of the prestigious British Institute of Interior Design. With world class competition from Cochrane Design’s Grand London Residence and the Shoreditch Loft Apartment from Maurizio Pellizzoni, we’re overjoyed for Emperor’s Gate to receive such truly meaningful recognition.

“True passion for architecture can make work its own reward,” said John Dyer-Grimes. “But when this work is appreciated – whether by clients or the British Homes Awards – it provides uplifting affirmation that our creations are not just important to us but to architecture itself”.

“On a personal level, it makes me feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such a dedicated team and the award gives us all a boost of inspiration to reach new heights in the coming year and beyond.”

The ceremony took place at the Grosvenor Square Marriott on September 19th. Michael and John joined some of the top minds in British architecture to accept their award and applaud the other winners.

“I get the pleasure of seeing countless projects to completion, and I’m proud of them all,” said Michael at the ceremony. “Being able to share one of them with everyone here and everyone who follows the British Homes Awards feels fantastic.

“We never know if our projects will gain recognition. The most important thing is to keep pushing the bar – awards prove to us that’s exactly what we’re doing and help to keep us on the right track.”

To learn more about the award-winning Emperor’s Gate, there’s no better place than Michael’s original June feature. And why not browse the British Homes Awards winners list? It’s packed with exemplary modern domestic architecture that may inspire a dream home of your own.

The DGA team hopes 2015 will earn us a British Homes Awards hat-trick, but in the mean time we’re going to continue to work hard, push boundaries and build fantastic homes.
